The Bunkers: Guesthouse in Knokke-Heist
In the low-laying polders on the Belgian coastline, The Bunkers, with its high-end architecture, offers a unique atmosphere.
An extraordinary experience
The Bunkers stands in the middle of the polders, in Knokke-Heist on the northeast coast of Belgium, close to the Netherlands.
Initially a farmhouse and barn, they have been completely renovated into a guesthouse built in a modern architectural style, with the help of architects Govaert & Vanhoutte from Bruges and interior designer Anversa from Antwerp. The two spaces are connected by a long underground corridor. The other stone bunkers surrounding the property have also been converted into an enclosure for chickens, bees, and sheep. The Bunkers’ sober design combines raw natural materials, old brick, wood, industrial elements, tall bay windows and refined finishes. Black, white, and shades of dark and light gray are the predominant colors. The floors are a mixture of concrete and large rocks from the original grounds.
The 5 rooms have a unique decorative style and atmosphere in each of them, combining designer furniture and exposed wooden ceiling beams. Some are fitted with a terrace and a breathtaking view of the Belgian countryside. The bathrooms are sleek and designed with a shower or a bathtub and custom made sinks cut into the concrete.
At the heart of the house is a Scandinavian Vipp kitchen with black lacquered steel cabinets that contrast with the central concrete island. Breakfast is composed of fresh eggs and homemade honey that is served in the dining room. In the living room, large wooden panels contrast with comfortable grey sofas, thick carpets, wire chairs and a designer fireplace. The house has plenty of space to relax; a heated terrace, an infrared sauna, a heated indoor swimming pool, a gym, and a games room.
In the middle of nowhere, The Bunkers is no ordinary guesthouse.
