Maison Roz: Breton elegance along the Aven

Brittany in its finest setting
Perched on a secluded three-hectare estate, Maison Roz overlooks the Aven River, just steps from the peaceful Roz‑Bras harbor and close to the picturesque village of Pont-Aven, a jewel of Cornouaille. Century-old trees line the driveway, instantly giving a sense of timeless refuge. From the terrace or the floor-to-ceiling windows, one can admire the river’s gentle flow, small sailboats in the harbor, the soft green of the surrounding woods, and Brittany’s shifting light — a setting that pays homage to Pont-Aven’s rich artistic heritage.

A reimagined heritage
Built in the 19th century, the house has belonged to the family of architect Augustin Decaux for five generations. Together with his wife, architect-designer Élodie Dumas, they transformed this family home into an exceptional contemporary retreat. The goal was not to erase the past, but to reveal the soul of the place — a manifesto of hospitality infused with memory, comfort, and sensitivity. Maison Roz is neither a traditional hotel nor a guesthouse; it is “a house to live in,” an intimate space designed to welcome families, friends, or even wellness retreats, with the freedom of an extended home.

Breton tradition meets contemporary elegance
The granite façade, typical of Breton homes, is highlighted by finely crafted wooden friezes, a subtle balance between local heritage and modernity. Inside, Wunder orchestrated an exceptionally elegant interior: vintage furniture, artisanal tiles, turned wood, and contemporary touches. The rooms’ palette — warm yellows, soothing greens, and deep blues — is inspired by the surrounding landscape and the unique light of the Aven. Every object, every piece of furniture appears carefully chosen, blending the intimate memory of the place with a refined contemporary design.

The rooms: comfort, intimacy, and a poetic palette
Maison Roz accommodates up to 12 guests across six bedrooms: five in the main house and one in an independent cabin. In the main house, four double bedrooms with harmonious décor — shades of blue, green, and yellow — offer peaceful views of the Aven or the park, with en-suite bathrooms, high-quality bedding, and curated bath products. For children or teenagers, a loft space houses two single beds and a playroom with projector, cushions, and relaxation areas — ideal for family stays. The independent cabin, nestled in the woods, offers additional privacy and tranquility: a bright living room and a master bedroom under the eaves with views of the Aven, perfect for couples or a discreetly luxurious return to nature.

Freedom, comfort, and togetherness
The expansive living area — with a lounge, fireplace, and fully equipped open kitchen — forms the foundation of a free and lively stay. Guests gather around the large wooden table for shared meals, enjoy the crackling stove, or watch the light stream through the windows. The west-facing terrace provides the perfect setting for dining by the water, moments of contemplation, or basking in the sun at dusk. Barbecue, deck chairs, designer furniture… every detail encourages the soft rhythms of Breton life. Maison Roz offers more than a roof over one’s head; it provides a lifestyle where time slows, laughter is shared, and silence speaks. For travelers wishing to taste local specialties, the house provides a curated guide to the region’s best addresses — crêperies, seafood, art galleries — extending the experience beyond the walls.

Relaxation, serenity, and freedom
On the lower level, a spa area reveals its full potential: heated indoor pool with counter-current, floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Aven, private sauna… a cocoon for relaxation in any weather or season. Maison Roz also offers tailored services: massages, breakfast delivery, concierge, bike rentals, and boat excursions from the nearby harbor, ensuring a completely effortless stay. Families will also find their haven: baby equipment, children’s playroom, and adaptable spaces for yoga, fitness, or shared activities — a place that adapts, welcomes, and lives.

A Breton breath for heart and soul
Maison Roz does not merely accommodate travelers — it invites them to slow down, breathe, and live. Between the river, the light, the trees, and the warm interior colors, every moment resonates as a celebration of Brittany in its deepest, most intimate form. For a weekend, a week, a suspended pause, or a gathering of friends, this house promises a return to the essentials: nature, presence, and timeless serenity.
