Monocabin: Cabin in Rhodes

On the Greek island of Rhodes, Monocabin is an innovative miniature white house created as a livable design object.

A livable design object

Monocabin is a cabin for rent located in the upmarket residential area of Ialisos, 100 metres from a pebbly beach, in Rhodes, the largest of the Dodecanese islands.

The Monocabin micro-house was designed in 2018 by the Milan-based Mandalaki Design Studio (founded by George Kolliopoulos, Enrico de Lotto and Giovanni Senin). Monocabin is a concept of a prefabricated house, manufactured by the Italian company Habito, aimed at simplifying the process of design and construction, and recently became available for purchase in Europe and the US. The house is also intended to be eco-friendly, as it is designed to minimise environmental impact, from construction to energy consumption, throughout its life. Moniocabin has a modern cubic-shaped structure with a flat roof, offering an elegant and clean design that blends in perfectly with the organic environment of the surrounding nature into a livable design object.

Encompassing 27 square metres, Monocabin includes a bedroom, a bathroom, an equipped kitchen, an outdoor space serving as a living/dining room. Interiors are minimalist, functional and simple, in a palette of white contrasting with black aluminium doorframes. The 20 cm thick walls are made of a combination of fibre-reinforced concrete, plywood and drywall with insulation made of hemp, in order to ensure ideal acoustics and thermal insulation. The house has many openings in order to bright and airy inside, and accentuate the sensation of living in nature by blurring indoor and outdoor space in a unique way. A rainfall shower and a furnished outdoor terrace allow guests to appreciate even more the outdoor experience. A selection of fitness equipment (Trx, lift bar, skipping rope, etc.) is available to guests for workouts and a healthy lifestyle.
