The Range, also known as the Escarpment House, is a house for rent located near Gerringong, 90 minutes south of Sydney, on a rugged New South Wales coastline.
The Range, completed in 2017, is owned by Australian Jeffrey Simpson, the London-based owner who founded Dovecote, a real estate and accommodation company. The house was designed by Atelier Andy Carson architectural firm. Overlooking the coastal cliffs and the Werri Beach, the house is nestled beachfront on green 150-acre farmland housing dairy cows. Perfectly integrated into the landscape, the house presents a contemporary single storey structure with a rectangular shape, with a pitched roof and a black corrugated steel facade, reminiscent of the appearance of the surrounding farm buildings.
With a surface area of 125 sqm, and accommodating up to 4 people, The Range features an open-plan area with a living room and a suspended ceiling fireplace, a dining area, and an open kitchen. In the living room, operable copper shutters open and close on demand to either protect from the sun or open up to the views. As for the kitchen, the fridge is always full, filled with a selection of local and organic products. There are also two bedrooms, each with their own views of the scenery, and a bathroom with a bathtub. The second bedroom can be configured with a king-size bed or twin beds. Modern and comfortable, understated and elegant, interiors lined with warm wood and smooth concrete feature furnishings carefully selected by Jeffrey Simpson in collaboration with Kathryn Durham – Dovecote’s property manager. Lots of large windows allow you to watch the ocean or the cows returning to the milking sheds. Outside, the house has a terrace and a plunge pool for cooling off on hot summer days. It is possible to walk to the seaside and enjoy access to the private beach.
