Villa Kuro is a rental home located in the American Joshua Tree National Park, Southern California.

Villa Kuro was previously a tired ranch-style property built in 1966, that have been remodeled by Elaine Chao and her partner Stanley Yang, owners and founders of Los Angeles-based real estate and interior design studio Mini Inno. After several months of work, the house offers a minimalist sanctuary in the desert, designed for a slow living, combining natural simplicity and contemporary luxury. The house is nestled on an unfenced 3.6 acres in front of an ancient boulder mountain, that goes all the way up to the peak of the mountain, filled with cactus, shrubs, rocks of varying sizes and yucca palm trees. The exterior features a dark facade that blends in perfectly with the natural surroundings.

Villa Kuro covers 185 sqm on one level, and includes a living room, a kitchen with a huge central island, a dining room, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The old garage has been transformed into a tea room, with huge openings on both sides to integrate the outdoors with the indoors and enjoy the breathtaking views of the desert and the mountain. The spaces are open-plan, modern and perfectly functional. Completely stripped down and refitted with a new aesthetic, the interiors embracing the concept of wabi-sabi, a Japanese philosophy about finding beauty in imperfection. Interiors feature hand-applied tadelakt walls and floors, a neutral palette of soft whites, creams and browns, exposed wooden beams, natural materials, large windows, combined with woven textures, basketry, and rugs, creating a warm atmosphere. Several outdoor areas complete the property, including a covered patio with a dining table, a pebbled garden, a courtyard and a place with lounge chairs, a salt water hot tub, an outdoor shower, and a fire pit.
