Hotel Villa Dubrovnik: Hotel in Dubrovnik
Suspended between sky and sea, Villa Dubrovnik offers a sublime retreat where elegance unfolds to the rhythm of the Adriatic waves.
Hotel Villa Dubrovnik: Croatia’s Most Exclusive Hotel
Tucked into a cliffside, sheltered from view, and just minutes from Dubrovnik’s historic heart, Villa Dubrovnik stands as a contemporary sanctuary devoted to serenity and authenticity. Located in the coveted Sveti Jakov district, this five-star hotel boasts breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea, Lokrum Island, and the ochre rooftops of the UNESCO-listed Old Town.
Originally built in 1961 to host political elites, the building was quickly repurposed as an annex of the Hotel Argentina before becoming a standalone 30-room hotel in the 1970s. In 2003, Villa Dubrovnik doubled its capacity and established itself as one of the gems of Croatian hospitality. After nearly two years of closure and an ambitious renovation, the hotel will reopen in 2025, fully transformed under the vision of Studio Arthur Casas, the internationally acclaimed Brazilian design firm. The architectural elegance and soul of the place have been carefully preserved, elevated with a Mediterranean refinement that is both understated and poetic.
Villa Dubrovnik blends discreetly into the cliffside. The renovation project drew from Dubrovnik’s natural palette, white stone, fine woods, hand-glazed terracotta tiles, to create a soothing and sensual atmosphere. The color scheme features whites, sands, and beiges, echoing Dubrovnik’s stone walls, while the warm terracotta tones pay homage to the city’s rooftops. Every detail, from bespoke furniture to lace-inspired Croatian patterns, tells a local story enhanced by contemporary design touches. The hotel also serves as an art gallery, showcasing Croatian artists such as painters Ivana Pegan and Dubravka Tulio, and sculptor Ivo Dimnić. The staff uniforms, designed by avant-garde fashion designer Juraj Zigman, add a couture flair to the experience.
Villa Dubrovnik features 56 rooms, suites, and residences that blend modernist simplicity with discreet luxury, each offering a window onto the living canvas of the sea and city. Nearly all rooms include private balconies, true loggias suspended above the Adriatic, ideal for enjoying a morning coffee or a sunset glass of wine. Some exceptional suites, like the Romantiko, Beleca, and Mirakul, even include private outdoor jacuzzis for the ultimate relaxation. Furniture by top international designers interacts with natural textures and omnipresent light. Names like Paola Lenti, Gio Ponti, Arthur Casas, Patricia Urquiola, Pierre Paulin, Eileen Gray, and Prostoria lend a contemporary yet timeless spirit. Every detail is crafted for ultimate comfort: premium bedding, rain showers, intuitive technology, and artisanal touches anchoring the experience in local heritage.
The gastronomic experience matches the setting with two restaurants and two bars. Pjerin, recommended by the Michelin Guide, offers refined cuisine celebrating seafood and Croatian terroirs, led by Chef Robert Račić. Its terrace provides an unforgettable view of the Old Town at sunset. For a more relaxed atmosphere, Giardino serves fresh Mediterranean cuisine in a garden suspended among pine trees and ancient stones. The Libero Bar, featuring antique books and vintage costumes on display, and the Galanto Bar, Dubrovnik’s only rooftop bar with panoramic city and sea views, complete the sensory journey.
For relaxation, the Villa Spa includes five treatment rooms, a Finnish sauna, hammam, a sunlit indoor pool, and a state-of-the-art fitness area. The hotel also features a secluded private beach at the foot of the cliff, with direct sea access. Guests can indulge in bespoke experiences: sailing trips to the Elaphiti Islands, mindful hikes, twilight horseback riding in the Konavle countryside, private tours into the city’s rich history, or wine tastings on the Pelješac Peninsula.
Villa Dubrovnik is committed to sustainability and is Green Globe certified. The “Gardens of Dubrovnik” initiative transformed rooftops and outdoor spaces with indigenous Mediterranean flora, including cascading bougainvillea on every balcony.
A discreet haven for aesthete travelers, Villa Dubrovnik is more than just a hotel: it is an invitation to slow down, to contemplate, to reinvent oneself, and to feel free—far from noise, prying eyes, and the ordinary.
