ZEL Mallorca: Hotel in Mallorca, Spain
A New Vision of Mediterranean Hospitality
ZEL Mallorca was born from the collaboration between Rafael Nadal and Meliá Hotels International, with the ambition of creating a hotel brand inspired by the Mediterranean way of life. The first ZEL property, the hotel opened in 2023 in Palmanova following the complete transformation of an existing property. More than a conventional beach hotel, ZEL Mallorca is designed to recreate the atmosphere of a Mediterranean holiday home, where life flows naturally from the bedroom to the courtyard, from the courtyard to the pool and from the pool to the beach. The concept is rooted in Mallorca, drawing on local materials, craftsmanship and the island’s natural palette while introducing a contemporary lifestyle sensibility. The result is relaxed yet sophisticated, with an emphasis on indoor-outdoor living rather than traditional hotel formality.
An Open Mediterranean Architecture by ASAH Studio
The transformation of ZEL Mallorca was entrusted to Spanish architecture and design studio ASAH Studio, founded by architects Álvaro and Adriana Sans. Their approach centered on the idea of creating a hotel that would feel more like a Mediterranean home than a conventional hospitality property. At the heart of the hotel, the central courtyard acts as the main gathering space, connecting the different areas of the property and encouraging a more fluid way of moving through the hotel. The design draws heavily on the architecture and craftsmanship of the Balearic Islands while incorporating references from across the Mediterranean. Natural wood, stone, woven fibers, textured fabrics and sandy tones create warm, tactile interiors, while contemporary furniture is combined with handcrafted elements and references to traditional Mallorcan architecture. Large openings and terraces further blur the boundaries between inside and out.
165 Rooms Inspired by the Mediterranean
ZEL Mallorca features 165 rooms, including 21 suites, spread across several categories ranging from rooms with balconies to suites with generous private terraces. Some overlook the gardens, while others open toward the Mediterranean. The interiors continue the natural design language found throughout the hotel, with organic textures, understated colors and materials inspired by the island’s landscape. Outdoor space plays an important role, allowing guests to take full advantage of Mallorca’s mild climate. Higher room categories offer larger terraces, while selected suites feature additional private outdoor amenities. Rather than traditional expressions of luxury, the rooms favor a relaxed, contemporary aesthetic that feels more like a sophisticated Mediterranean retreat than a conventional hotel room.
Between Courtyard, Pool and Sea
Outdoor living is central to the ZEL Mallorca experience. The hotel features two swimming pools, including a sea-facing pool with direct access to the beach, while a second pool offers a quieter atmosphere within the garden. The central courtyard serves as the social heart of the property, with spaces designed for coffee, reading, conversation or simply enjoying the atmosphere. The beach of Palmanova lies directly in front of the hotel, giving ZEL an immediate connection to the Mediterranean. This relationship with the outdoors defines the rhythm of a stay: swimming, sunbathing, exercising, lingering over lunch and spending evenings outside rather than retreating into conventional hotel interiors.
Beso Beach and the Mediterranean Table
Food and social life are integral to the ZEL concept, with Beso Beach Mallorca occupying a prime beachfront position. The restaurant brings the spirit of the Beso Beach brand to the hotel, combining Mediterranean cuisine with Basque influences in a relaxed setting overlooking the sea. Designed for long lunches and sunset dinners, it adds a distinctly social dimension to the property. Within the central courtyard, Café de Finca provides a more casual setting centered around coffee and informal moments. Together, these spaces reinforce ZEL’s ambition to function as a lifestyle destination rather than simply a hotel restaurant. Dining here is part of the broader Mediterranean ritual: coffee in the morning, a long lunch by the sea and drinks as the sun begins to set.
AUA Wellness Studio and an Active Approach to Well-Being
Wellness at ZEL Mallorca is closely connected to movement and the outdoors. The AUA Wellness Studio offers a dedicated space for treatments and recovery, with facilities including a sauna, steam room and relaxation areas. The Active MED by Rafa Nadal program extends this philosophy through sports and experiences inspired by the Mediterranean lifestyle. Yoga, fitness, cycling and outdoor activities encourage guests to experience Mallorca beyond the traditional beach holiday. The sporting dimension naturally reflects Rafael Nadal’s identity, but it forms part of a broader approach to well-being in which movement, nutrition, sunshine and time spent outdoors all contribute to the experience.
A Contemporary Take on the Mallorcan Lifestyle
With ZEL Mallorca, Rafael Nadal and Meliá have created a more contemporary interpretation of the Mediterranean resort. The combination of a beachfront setting, open architecture, island-inspired design and lifestyle-driven programming gives the hotel a personality that feels distinctly different from a traditional coastal resort. Its location in Palmanova also makes it a convenient base for exploring Palma, the southwest coast and the wider island. ZEL Mallorca is particularly suited to travelers looking for a stylish, lively and relaxed hotel with a strong sense of place, a Mediterranean atmosphere and an active approach to travel. As the first expression of the ZEL brand, it establishes a clear vision of Mediterranean hospitality built around design, community, movement and outdoor living.
