Althoff Villa Belrose: Hotel in Saint-Tropez
Suspended between sky and sea, Villa Belrose offers a discreet luxury haven and breathtaking views over the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.
Villa Belrose: The Art of Mediterranean Chic on the Heights of Saint-Tropez
Just five minutes from the iconic village of Saint-Tropez, the Althoff Hotel Villa Belrose rises on the hills of Gassin like a balcony overlooking the azure gulf. Set within a 9,000 m² estate of umbrella pines and fragrant gardens, this Florentine-inspired villa displays mimosa-yellow façades, white balustrades, and terraced gardens, as if perched above an Italian lake. Here, the gaze wanders endlessly: the bay, the Estérel hills, and sometimes even the Alps stretch across the horizon.
Opened in 1997 by Thomas H. Althoff, owner of the Althoff Hotel Collection, Villa Belrose quickly became one of the Côte d’Azur’s most discreet and refined addresses. Since January 2001, it has been led by Robert-Jan van Straaten, born in Switzerland of Dutch origin, who has made a remarkable entrance into the exclusive circle of general managers of Saint-Tropez palaces. “For nearly 25 years, I have personally ensured the well-being of our guests, surrounded by a skilled and enthusiastic team,” he says. His philosophy: hospitality above all, making every stay a magical interlude. Under his leadership, Villa Belrose has preserved the soul of a “small hotel” with discreet luxury while offering the full range of services of a grand palace. In 2024, the property joined the elite Leading Hotels of the World, cementing its place among the most prestigious independent luxury hotels worldwide.
Villa Belrose charms with its classic Mediterranean villa style, yet its recent renovation has infused it with a fresh modernity. Designer Markus Hilzinger, Althoff’s artistic director, reimagined the interiors with contemporary chic in mind: solid wood floors, Italian marble bathrooms, soft shades inspired by the surrounding nature, and unique pieces by exceptional artists and craftsmen. The result is a subtle balance between the timeless elegance of the Côte d’Azur and seamlessly integrated modernity.
For the 2025 season, the hotel unveils 39 fully renovated rooms and suites, all bathed in natural light with views over the Mediterranean. Some are interconnecting to accommodate families and friends in absolute comfort. The new Belrose, Sainte-Maxime, and Saint-Tropez Suites embody this refinement: Italian marble, generous spaces, dressing rooms, and private terraces with breathtaking views. The Belrose Suite, the hotel’s jewel, combines a refined living room, spacious bedroom, and two bathrooms, extended by a panoramic terrace. Here, luxury and serenity meet in an atmosphere where every detail is designed for intimacy and pleasure.
In 2025, Le Belrose restaurant makes a grand comeback with a Mediterranean fine dining concept led by chef Jimmy Coutel. Born in Saint-Raphaël, recognized by Gault&Millau, and awarded a Michelin star in 2017, Coutel champions a simple, sincere cuisine rooted in the local terroir. His menu celebrates local products and sun-kissed Mediterranean flavors, enhanced by one of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez’s most stunning terraces. Around the pool, Le Méditerranée offers lighter, refreshing dishes, perfect for sun-soaked lunches. Gastronomic elegance here is presented in a more relaxed atmosphere, yet always under the chef’s expert touch.
Luxury at Villa Belrose is also felt in moments of relaxation. Its 200 m² pool, one of the largest in the bay, appears to merge with the azure horizon. A renovated solarium, a leisure pool, and a state-of-the-art fitness room complete this seaside interlude. The Niance Beauty Center offers high-performance Swiss treatments, exclusive massages, and bespoke rituals for a truly exceptional sensory experience—a cocoon where time slows down to the rhythm of well-being.
Concierge services by two Les Clefs d’Or members, 24-hour room service, babysitting, valet service, and private villa rentals elevate the art of hospitality to its peak.
The Althoff Bellevue Villa Rental collection enriches the experience with 16 luxury villas, each with private pools and full five-star hotel service. The new Villa Voltaire, inaugurated in 2025, accommodates up to 14 guests, offering an intimate, exclusive stay.
Between sky and sea, Althoff Hotel Villa Belrose is more than a hotel: it is a lifestyle, an ode to Mediterranean serenity and discreet luxury. Refinement here is never ostentatious but always in service of the experience. A unique address where one seeks escape, leaving with the heart imbued with the light of the Côte d’Azur.
