Arthotel Lasserhaus: Hotel in Brixen
Beneath the colorful frescoes of a 15th-century façade, the Arthotel Lasserhaus in Brixen unveils a new way of inhabiting history, where heritage, design, and contemporary art come together.
Arthotel Lasserhaus: An Artistic Refuge in the Heart of the Dolomites
Brixen/Bressanone is the oldest town in Tyrol, nestled on the banks of the Isarco River, in the heart of a mountain landscape where Mediterranean softness meets Alpine rigor. The Lasserhaus is part of the medieval district of Stufels, a labyrinth of cobbled alleys, picturesque bridges, and historic houses. Here, time seems to stand still: the hotel becomes a privileged starting point, both close to the old town and within reach of the vast Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The atmosphere is that of a place where history continues to be written, yet where every detail radiates modernity. Some rooms offer breathtaking views over the city’s landmarks.
The Lasserhaus is not a hotel like any other: it is an aristocratic residence dating back to the 15th century. The renovation of the building and its reopening in 2024 were carried out by hoteliers with local roots and a contemporary vision of hospitality. The project was entrusted to the Milan-based architectural firm Vudafieri-Saverino Partners, which carried out a transformation that is both respectful and bold. Since November 2023, the Arthotel Lasserhaus has welcomed guests as a 4-star superior hotel, balancing intimate memory with openness to the world.
Restoring a building that is entirely listed as a historical monument is no ordinary undertaking. The Milanese architects rose to the challenge brilliantly: preserving the soul of the house while infusing it with contemporary energy. The architecture plays with subtle contrasts: ancient beams and noble materials meet clean lines, tactile surfaces, and soft light, creating a harmonious balance. The colors are inspired by the surrounding landscapes: the deep green of the forests, the warm brown of larch wood, and the flamboyant hues of autumn foliage.
The Lasserhaus is more than a hotel—it is a living gallery. The artistic project brings together numerous baroque works in dialogue with contemporary creations. In the corridors and rooms, baroque portraits respond to modern installations. Each space becomes a place of exchange, a silent conversation between past and present, in which visitors are invited to take part.
The hotel offers only ten rooms (three suites, six doubles and one single) designed as refined cocoons. Natural materials such as larch wood, brass, and velvet create a warm, enveloping atmosphere. Sculpted headboards, restored Tyrolean chairs, and custom-designed furniture give each space its unique character. Some rooms host site-specific works, such as Ingrid Hora’s Sprossenwand, which encourages guests to reimagine their relationship to space. Here, sleeping becomes an aesthetic experience, a sensory and cultural immersion.
On the first floor, the breakfast room glows under a sculptural chandelier. It is here that artist Petra Polli’s work, Expect the Best, converses with the morning light, accompanying guests in a gourmet ritual. Local produce and Alpine-Mediterranean flavors meet in subtle harmony, true to the spirit of Brixen, a crossroads of cultures.
Sheltered within the historic stone walls, an intimate spa offers a sauna and jacuzzi, perfect after a day in the mountains. This retreat is not only for the body but also for the mind, enriched with artworks that question our perception of time and space. In the vaulted cellar, reimagined by Peter Kogler, a wine tasting becomes an immersive experience of light and endless perspectives. A library, reading nooks, and conversation corners complete the hushed atmosphere, designed to encourage encounters and reflection.
Staying at Arthotel Lasserhaus means crossing a bridge between centuries and cultures. It means feeling the power of the Dolomites from an intimate refuge, while being surprised by works of art that challenge and inspire. It is also the chance to discover Brixen anew: a medieval town looking to the future, where art is lived every day. Lasserhaus is not just a place to stay, but a destination in itself, a haven where the unexpected awaits, and where every guest leaves transformed.
