Baja Club: Hotel in La Paz
A colonial-style villa from 1900 has been transformed by Grupo Habita into a refined lifestyle hotel.
A breeze of chic and bohemian modernity in La Paz
The Baja Club Hotel is located on the coastal promenade in Historic Center La Paz, in Baja California, Mexico.
Opened in 2021, Baja Club is owned by the Mexican hotel group Grupo Habita, which already has a dozen hotels in Mexico.
Baja Club was designed by Max von Werz Arquitectos in collaboration with the Parisian duo of Jaune Architecture. The hotel, true to the group’s DNA, mixes the old and the new. It includes a restored 1900 classic Mexican hacienda designed in colonial style, and a new modern four-storey extension. A spiral staircase connects the four floors; its light and airy design encourages guests to choose it over elevators. The two structures form an L framing a central courtyard with a series of peaceful patios and gardens. The villa’s high ceilings, wooden beams and original chandelier set a colonial era tone that acts as the common thread.
The hotel consists of 32 rooms and suites in a minimalist style. They display different types of dark and light woods, seats in natural materials (rattan, cane, rope), natural stone, and local crafts. The bathrooms are tiled in red or green. The 100 sqm large Presidential Suite has a beautiful terrace with a view.
An outdoor kitchen, complemented by a pre-existing pergola and lush vegetation, provides the perfect setting for dining with Greco-Mexican cuisine.
The hotel has a lagoon-coloured, sand-lined pool and a collection of striped lounge chairs, juxtaposed against the property’s original historic walls, which features a Mexican stucco finish.
A rooftop bar offers access to the best views of the bay while the spa allows guests to relax in style. The hotel has its own library, as well as a shop offering design, fashion and local crafts.
Latest of Grupo Habita’s five-star establishments, the Baja Club breathes a breath of chic and bohemian modernity into La Paz.
