Escondido Oaxaca: Hotel in Oaxaca
Escondido Oaxaca is an oasis of beauty and peace to enjoy one of Mexico's most iconic cities.
Enjoy Oaxaca’s authentic atmosphere
Escondido is a small hotel located in Oaxaca, Mexico, opened at the end of 2019 by Grupo Habita.
Architect Alberto Kalach of the Taller de Arquitectura X studio, in collaboration with the interior design studio Decada Muebles, have redesigned an old Casona, which is an authentic 19th century family home. The hotel has preserved its original architecture and most of its historic details. The entrance of the hotel opens up onto a spacious hall with oversized terracotta flower pots. The common areas are clad with red bricks on the floor, while the walls are plastered with stucco, exposing old traces of paint.
The hotel consists of 12 rooms; 4 rooms in the main building and 8 others designed in a brutalist contemporary concrete tower behind the house. The rooms, decorated with Mexican touches and colors of ochres and off-whites, are finished with exposed brick and rough concrete, creating a warm and timeless atmosphere. Through a simple and clean design, the rooms feature sabino wood furniture handcrafted by master craftsmen, including bed frames, side tables, chairs, and shutters. The woven palm leaf headboards were custom-made in Oaxaca. Some rooms have access to leafy patios, others have spacious balconies. The bathrooms are lined with green-stained cement tiles, a subtle reference to Cantera stone, a volcanic rock with green hues that is native to Oaxaca.
On the first floor of La Casona, the bar-restaurant serves classic Italian Piedmontese recipes under the direction of chef Mario Petterino. The hotel has a reading and co-working room in a two-story duplex called the “Culture Room”. On the top floor of the Casona there is a bar covered by a pergola, a swimming pool, and a sundeck.
Escondido Oaxaca is an ideal place to enjoy Oaxaca’s authentic atmosphere.
