Further Bali: A New Design Sanctuary in Pererenan

In the ethereal calm of Pererenan, a hotel emerges like an architectural mirage. Discreet, sculptural, and deeply poetic, Further is more than a place to sleep, it’s a full sensory experience where every detail tells a story, and every space breathes silence.

Sheltered from the bustle of Canggu, in the preserved village of Pererenan, Further reveals itself slowly, in step with a walk along rice-paddy-lined paths. Here, concrete breathes, ochre walls absorb the light, and the jungle’s vibrations merge with echoes of contemporary design. Just minutes from the beach, the place combines urban refinement with rural calm, between early-morning surf and contemplative sunsets.

Founded by Claudio Cuccu and Martine McGrath, Further was born from a desire to offer an alternative to standardized hospitality, drawing inspiration from the Italian albergo diffuso model. Rather than being concentrated in a single building, the suites are spread across several homes within the neighborhood, creating a sense of belonging to a micro-village. This innovative concept nurtures closeness without ever sacrificing privacy. It’s at once a living space, an open gallery, a creative hub, and a cocoon for reconnection.

The architectural design is the work of Italo-Australian firm MORQ, masters of sensual brutalism. Their buildings, with pure and silent lines, celebrate raw concrete, perforated Balinese brick, shifting shadows, and mineral textures. Inside, interior designer Amy Wenden (Studio Wenden) brings a wabi-sabi aesthetic, weathered leather, travertine, charcoal tones, and raw textiles unite in a warm, tactile, and intimate atmosphere. It’s a beauty that doesn’t seek to impress, but to ground.

Further features ten suites, each conceived as a meditative haven. The Urban King and Urban Twin offer between 53 and 65 m², while the studios, two-bedroom suites, and penthouses reach up to 135 m². Their signature elements? Sunken beds set flush with the floor, private patios, outdoor bathtubs, and a subtle play of natural light filtered through stone and foliage. No screens, but curated vinyl, a turntable, photographic works, and an exclusive soundtrack set the mood. Here, luxury is muted, tactile, instinctive.

Bar Vera, a chic tropical bistro, embodies the generous spirit of the place. Its cuisine draws from both Balinese markets and a Mediterranean art of living: goat cheese fritters, sambal steak tartare, cardamom-roasted vegetables, all paired with natural wines or yuzu-infused cocktails. In the morning, Melbourne’s famed St. Ali coffee wakes you gently, with precise espresso, homemade granola, and gluten-free pastries. The rooftop bar, Portion, completes the experience with a panoramic pool and a shareable menu served in a twilight ambiance.

While Further doesn’t house its own spa, it offers privileged access to the nearby Wrong Gym, featuring a sauna, cold plunge, and guided movement sessions. The hotel also provides bicycles, organizes yoga sessions and creative workshops, and offers WhatsApp concierge service. A pop-up boutique, Friends of Further, showcases committed brands like Oaken Lab, Smile, and Thomas Surfboards, so you can take a piece of the experience home with you.

Further is more than a stay, it’s an aesthetic retreat, an invitation to introspection and slowness. A precious, discreet address, whispered about quietly, like a secret too beautiful to shout. In Bali, it’s rare to find a place that calms as much as it inspires. Further does, with grace.
