Mylos Cargèse: Hotel in Corsica
Perched on a hillside, Mylos Hotel reveals itself as a mineral elegy, suspended between sky, sea, and heritage.
Mylos Hotel Cargèse: The Mineral Elegance of a Mediterranean Refuge
On the western coast of Corsica, where winding roads cling to the mountains before diving into the emerald waters of the Mediterranean, Cargèse stands like a balcony suspended between two cultures: Greek and Latin. In this village with a dual soul, nestled between maquis-covered hills and a shimmering sea, Mylos Hotel has quietly taken root. Overlooking the gulf that shares its name, the hotel offers breathtaking views, a rare kind of silence, and a quality of light that only the Isle of Beauty can sculpt. More than a hotel, Mylos is a breath of fresh air, a pause, where every detail honors the dialogue between nature and culture.
Mylos was not born from a standardized vision of luxury hospitality, but from a desire to deeply resonate with its surroundings. Its name, meaning “mill” in Greek, pays tribute to the old stone mill that once stood on this very spot, a subtle nod to Cargèse’s Hellenic heritage. Behind the project stands the Corsican agency Orma Architettura, crafting a delicate, site-specific creation using local materials and a deep respect for Mediterranean legacy. The result is an organic, understatedly elegant architecture: ochre-tinted concrete sourced from the site itself, green roofs, and fragmented volumes that seem gently placed along the slope.
Inside, the story continues under the creative eye of Parisian interior designer Dorothée Meilichzon, renowned for her sensory, tactile atmospheres. Here, she envisions a soft, textured world: rounded forms, handmade ceramics, sculptural arches, and a warm, earthy palette, raw linen, sun-warmed stone, vegetal green. Nothing feels forced; every detail is quietly precise. Mylos does not seek to impress, it seeks to soothe, like a summer home where one comes to reconnect with the essential.
The hotel features 35 rooms, either gathered around a central patio or discreetly tucked into terraced buildings, accessible via landscaped pathways. Each is oriented toward the open sea or the hills beyond, some with private gardens, others with spacious sun-drenched terraces. Inside, mineral materials meet natural textures, arches evoke a dreamlike Mediterranean, and light flows freely through every space. More than just accommodation, each room is an invitation to withdraw, to contemplate, to breathe.
Set at the very top of the estate, with an unobstructed view of the sea, the restaurant Teos is helmed by Corsican chef and master gelato-maker Pierre Geronimi, a key figure in the island’s culinary scene. His cuisine is a mirror of his personality: sincere, refined, and inventive. Local ingredients shine, Mediterranean flavors abound, and every dish feels like a story in itself. Think reinvented fish lasagna, garden vegetables, boldly flavored sorbets, ouzo-infused desserts, and a menu that shifts with the seasons and the sea’s bounty.
Conceived to nurture self-reconnection, Mylos offers two complementary pools: one outdoor, facing the wide marine horizon; the other indoor, carved into the stone like a mineral cave, designed for meditation and rest. The spa, intimate and by appointment only, features bespoke massages, facial treatments, and lymphatic drainage, all provided by expert practitioners. A fitness room, terraced Mediterranean gardens, reading lounges, a game room, and even a meeting space complete this discreet sanctuary of wellness. Open year-round, the hotel welcomes travelers in search of stillness—even in the heart of winter.
At Mylos Hotel in Cargèse, luxury is redefined as a way of life, slow, thoughtful, and deeply rooted. Between stone, sea, and memory, it offers a rare kind of refuge, where one steps away from the world, only to savor its beauty more fully.
