Luxury surf lodge on France’s west coast
On the shores of Hossegor lake, located in the famous region of Les Landes, Frédéric Biousse and Guillaume Foucher, the owners of the Les Domaines de Fontenille collection, opened their 4th new address in June 2019, the luxury surf lodge Les Hortensias du Lac hotel.
Several months of renovation and expansion have transformed this 1930s villa Basque-Landes style villa, which was also a mythical 1950s resort address in Hossegor . Under the shade of the pine trees, and 200 m away from the beaches on the Atlantic, this eclectic hotel joyfully blends art deco heritage, regional architecture, surf culture, and the cool-chic spirit of the Hamptons. Beaming white walls mingle with vaulted ceilings, rounded windows and bay windows, Adirondack armchairs, all punctuated by dark green wainscoting.
The hotel features 25 rooms with a casual East Coast atmosphere. A majority of the rooms have balconies overlooking the saltwater lake. The rooms combine a clean Landais-style decor with a laid-back mood, featuring white paneled walls, light wood floors, sisal carpets, natural materials, vintage furniture, designer armchairs, and surfboards hanging over the beds.
The all-glass restaurant, run by Marseille-born chef Philippe Moreno, offers a locavorous cuisine based on seafood and plancha cooking. The hotel features an emerald-coloured outdoor infinity swimming pool and a fitness room equipped with Waterower equipment. The mineral spa LA Bruket, covers 450 m2, with a unique architecture and an outdoor Nordic bath. The hotel provides classic and electric bicycles, paddles and surfboards.
Open all year round, Les Hortensias du Lac is a must-see spot in Hossegor.
