Opened in October 2018, the Lon Retreat & Spa is located in the laid-back beach town of Point Lonsdale on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula.

The family farm operated for over 100 years over seven generations, first opened as a bed & breakfast in 1997 under the name ‘”Lonsdale Views”, then it was transformed and refurbished in 2017/18 by Claire and Rob Gemes, to become the perfect blend of home and hotel. Lon retreat allows to escape the busyness of life, to disconnect, on 200 acres of rural land, high on a hilltop with views to the ocean.

The hotel consists of 7 suites spread throughout a sandstone building, each named after a type of cloud (Alto, Cumulus, Cirrus, Stratus, Pileus, Nimbus, and Arcus). Each individually designed with its own unique character and spectacular views of the ocean, lakes, and surrounding farmland. Some rooms have cathedral ceilings and private courtyard gardens while others have open fireplaces, balconies, or even kitchenettes. The sleek decor, combines ocher and earthy tones, concrete floors, handmade furniture, artwork by local artists and designers, and natural stone and timber finishes, offering a cozy and luxurious sleeping experience. Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom.

Every morning a breakfast basket is delivered. Common areas include a lounge with smooth concrete walls and wooden ceilings, complete with a wood-burning stove and an honesty bar stocked with local produce. The corridor serves as an art gallery. Lon Retreat is also a day spa. The space consists of three treatment rooms, each with soaking tubs fed by the farm’s natural hot springs, a heated mineral pool, a steam room, a veranda, and terraces. There is no restaurant, but it is possible to order picnic baskets, tasting platters, or barbecue packs. There is a lot to explore around the property.
