Maximilian: Hotel in Prague

Maximilian, one of Prague’s most established hotels, has reopened after a refurbishment program.

The Maximilian hotel is located on Haštalská Street opposite the Haštal Church, close to the Old Town Square.

Since many years the hotel had become a favorite with international travelers. Tucked away in a 1903 building, the hotel owned by brothers Christian and Rudolf Ploberger had undergone a 2005 refresh by Czech architect Eva Jiricna.

In 2020, twenty-five years after its opening in 1995, the Maximilian hotel was spruced up, transformed and restyled by Conran and Partners. The existing ground floor spaces have been reconfigured to create new public spaces, including a café and bar, a brasserie, a library and event space with a courtyard garden, providing social spaces for guests and visitors. Bold use of color is the defining element of the design approach. Each interior space of the hotel presents a new ambiance, in a different pastel tones, referencing the colorful architecture of Prague’s inner city. Spaces are highlighted with bespoke lighting elements made by Czech manufacturer Sans Souci, elements of local craft, and a carefully curated selection of contemporary and classic furniture pieces in similar soft and colourful shades.

Maximilian consists of 71 rooms configured differently. Color is very present in the rooms, combining a deep blue with softer reflections, rattan cane headboards, oak joinery, window bench seat, textured glass, mirror, and brass details. Artworks celebrate the Czech avant-garde movement, including photomontages by Karel Teige. The terrazzo bathrooms have rainfall showers and high-end cosmetics.

The brasserie, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, serves healthy cuisine based on local products. In the hotel’s basement, there is a spa with treatment rooms.
