Node: Hotel in Kyoto
In Kyoto, Node is more like an art collector's house than a hotel. It is a place where hospitality and art meet.
Immerse Yourself in Art
The Node Hotel is located on a quiet and central street in Shijo Nishinotoin in Kyoto, in Japan’s Ancient Capital.
Node is housed in a new build, a narrow five-level structure with a facade of glass and concrete designed by local architect Seiichiro Takeuchi. Opened in July 2019, the hotel, which is owned by a local real estate agency, is a unique accommodation inspired by a private art collector’s residence, where hospitality and art meet. Carefully selected contemporary works of art are exposed throughout the hotel. The narrow and deep lobby sets the tone, in avant-garde and minimalist style, it features a monochrome painting hanging just behind the reception, as well as a large floral arrangement hanging from the ceiling. The hotel showcases an expansive art collection of over 60 pieces, including works by Gerhard Richter, Barry McGee, Bernard Frize, Tomoo Gokita, Shinro Ohtake, Nobuyoshi Araki, and Yukimasa Ida.
Node has 25 rooms with an intimate atmosphere, allowing guests to relax while appreciating the pieces. The rooms have diagonal metal-coated ceilings matched with dark textures and soothing grey tones, concrete walls, aged white oak flooring, and Takeuchi-designed furniture honed from marble and iron, for a mood that is at once sultry, eclectic, and contemporary.
On the first floor of the hotel, the restaurant rivals the glut of eateries in the surrounding area and offers an international bistro-style, farm-to-table concept. The double-height bar overlooked by expansive floor-to-ceiling windows and a six-meter living garden wall, is specialized in organic wine and spirits. The hotel also incorporates community spirit and endeavors to become a cultural hub through hosting collaborative exhibitions, pop-up shops, and guest gallerists in the lobby.
Node offers travelers much more than a place to dump their luggage and stay the night.
