São Lourenço do Barrocal: Hotel in Monsaraz
São Lourenço do Barrocal is a "monte" restored into a charming hotel, located in the Alentejo region of Portugal.
A setting that promotes renewal and relaxation
An hour and a half from Lisbon, in the Alentejo region, near the Spanish border, next to the walled city of Monsarez, on the top of a hill stands São Lourenço do Barrocal.
The estate has belonged to the same family for more than 200 years. It used to be an old agricultural village that has been transformed into a contemporary and discreet luxury hotel. The estate covers 780 hectares and is surrounded by vineyards, cork oaks and olive groves. The hotel is decorated with a mixture of manuscripts, old photographs, vintage furniture, and carpets. There is a consistent rustic simplicity that perfectly echoes the whitewashed exteriors and rural surroundings. Floors like those of the hotel are traditionally covered with rust-red tiles.
The hotel offers 40 accommodations divided into several categories; 22 rooms, 2 suites, and 16 cottages, all of which have private patios. The rooms are decorated in soft colors of natural wood, white, and blue duck. The decoration is simple and refined, incorporating a chic country style. The bathroom walls are covered with handmade white tiles.
Breakfast is organic, and is served with products directly from the property and other local products such as homemade bread from Alentejo.
The hotel also offers a bar-lounge and a farm-to-table restaurant where regional dishes are cooked. The swimming pool has also been designed with a stone that bears the name Barrocal. The spa offers a range of organic herbal products. There is also a cellar and a wine cellar where wine and olive oil from the property are sold, as well as pottery, throws, and carpets from the region.
São Lourenço do Barrocal is a relaxing retreat in the Alentejo countryside.
