The Brecon: Hotel in Adelboden
Nestled in the heart of the Swiss Alps, The Brecon Adelboden is much more than a hotel: it is a haven of refinement and warmth, where every detail invites you to disconnect.
The Brecon Adelboden: A Relaxed Alpine Hideaway That Feels More Like a Home Than a Hotel
Nestled at the edge of the village of Adelboden, The Brecon offers sweeping views of the Lohner massif and the snow-capped Bernese peaks. Here, alpine landscapes stretch as far as the eye can see, offering a breathtaking natural panorama. Far from the buzz of glitzy resorts, Adelboden charms with its authenticity and calm, providing the perfect setting for a rejuvenating escape.
Behind The Brecon is Grant Maunder, a Welshman who fell in love with Adelboden during a family holiday in the 1970s. Together with his brother Craig, they have imbued the hotel with a warm spirit, blending Welsh influences and Alpine hospitality. Their ambition? To create a place that feels like home—away from home. The name “The Brecon” is a tribute to the Welsh mountains, symbolizing a bridge between two cultures.
Set in the former Hotel Huldi, originally built in 1914, The Brecon has been reimagined by Dutch design studio Nicemakers. Their approach? Preserve the soul of the place while introducing a contemporary aesthetic. A blend of aged wood, natural stone, and ceramics pairs beautifully with clean lines and mid-century design touches. The result is a chic and cosy chalet, where every space tells a story.
The 22 rooms at The Brecon Adelboden—ranging from stylishly appointed rooms to spacious suites—have been designed as intimate sanctuaries where comfort meets refinement. Each room offers a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains, a natural tableau that shifts with the seasons. Carefully curated for both style and function, the rooms combine modern furnishings with vintage pieces and understated elegance. Artworks from Amsterdam’s Bisou Gallery adorn the walls, while books and magazines add a personal, cultured touch. Natural fabrics such as wool, linen, and cotton provide a tactile softness, enhancing the sense of well-being. Each room is equipped with a generously stocked minibar, Aesop toiletries, and thoughtful details that make all the difference. The rooftop suite, with its panoramic view, is a gem for lovers of grand landscapes. More than a luxury hotel, each room feels like a lovingly curated mountain home—designed for rest, relaxation, and inspiration.
At the heart of the hotel, an open kitchen invites guests to gather. The chef serves a modern take on Alpine cuisine, spotlighting local and seasonal ingredients. From breakfast to afternoon tea to dinner, each meal is a celebration of regional flavors. And to complement the dishes: a curated selection of fine wines and house cocktails—all included in the room rate.
The Brecon’s spa is a sanctuary of relaxation. With a sauna overlooking the Alps, a steam room, an outdoor pool heated to 34°C, and a relaxation room with a fireplace, every element is designed for deep wellness. Therapeutic treatments such as massages and aromatherapy are also offered. To prolong the experience, why not enjoy a glass of wine by the pool, gazing out at the mountains?
The Brecon Adelboden is more than a hotel—it’s a sensory experience, a place where luxury meets simplicity and every moment is an ode to Alpine beauty. Whether you’re a fan of skiing, hiking, or simply in search of serenity, this refined retreat will fulfill all your desires for escape.
