Following the success of its first property in Thessaloniki, the hotel brand The Modernist has opened a second address in Athens.
An avant-garde design hotel
The Modernist Athens is located on a quiet street in Kolonaki, an upscale residential area in the historic heart of the Greek capital.
Opened in fall 2020, The Modernist Athens is the sister property of Modernist Thessaloniki, a growing hotel brand created by the entrepreneur Kostis Karatzas.
Housed in the former Canadian Embassy, the hotel was designed by architecture and interior design studio FormRelated. The handsome 1950s corner building with its many balconies has been transformed by combining relaxed contemporary luxury with mid-century details and minimalist Danish design. The hotel is divided into basement, ground floor, 6 floors and roof garden.
The hotel consists of 38 luxurious rooms of different sizes (S, M, L and XL), spread across six floors, each with its own character and designed to fit individual needs, creating a feeling of pure comfort and relaxation. The XL rooms on the top floor have a drinks cart, record player, patio and outdoor hot tub. Designed to be modern living spaces, each room offers a simple and uncluttered aesthetic, enhanced by personalized lighting, bespoke furniture, a sober palette of dark greys and pinks, natural materials, wooden parquet floors, bronze, marble and leather. The monochrome bathrooms are equipped with Physis Laboratory bath products.
On the ground floor, the lobby with its Mid-Century vibe, dark tones, bronze details and shelves filled with a fine selection of modern books, is the beating heart of the hotel. Breakfast is served as an all-you-can-eat buffet. The space turns into a café-bar where you can enjoy healthy snacks throughout the day. The rooftop bar, with views of the Acropolis in the distance, is the best place for sunset cocktails.
Next to the lobby is a small shop that sells toiletries, espresso cups, and handmade brass pens. There is also a meeting room and a small gym in the basement.
