Bismarck House: House in Bondi

Bismarck House is an extraordinary architect-designed house that feels like an urban oasis, in the heart of Bondi.

Book Bismarck House

An urban oasis

Bismarck House is a house for rent located on the southern tip of Bondi in the Sydney suburb in Australia.

The house runs along a lane that serves shops and cafes on the Bondi Road leading to Bondi Beach. Completed in 2020, the house was designed by architect Andrew Burges Architects, for Julia and William Dangar (landscape architect), the owners who have lived in Bondi for over 30 years. Together with Design Daily Interiors and builder Robert Plumb Build, the scene was set for an unconventional and refreshing outcome. The house was named after the majestic Bismatck palm tree that stands in front of the house. Of what was previously a single storey house, only the front room and porch of the existing house have been kept. The rest of the original building was demolished, the bricks have been cleaned and reused for the new, two-storey construction. The idea was to place the garden at the heart of the scheme, like a “continuous garden” in order to create a fluid relationship between the inside and outside. The house is noticeably different from the surrounding residential neighbourhood, with a facade clad in corrugated steel and perforated aluminium sheets. The house can accommodate up to 8 people. It consists of an open space with a living room, an equipped kitchen, and a dining area, on the ground floor, with large openings connecting the rooms with the outside. A brick staircase leads upstairs where there are three bedrooms with Carlotta and Gee French linen sheets, a bathroom and another shared bathroom with a bathbub, stocked with Bondi Wash products. Bismarck House includes the option of having the 4th bedroom as a self-contained apartment with a separate entrance. The house’s aesthetic is soft industrial with a light and neutral color palette, white washed brick walls, smooth concrete floors, combined with a mix of designer and vintage furniture and lighting. The house has a laundry room and a garage which offers parking for one car.

Bismarck House offers the perfect Sydney summer experience.
