Houses that completely disappear in the landscape

Mirror House North and Mirror House South are a pair of individually rental vacation homes, located just outside the town of Bolzano, in South Tyrol, Italy.

The owner of the Mirror Houses lives on the site, in a restructured farmhouse of the 60s. The Mirror Houses were designed in 2015 by Peter Pichler Architecture, an architecture and design firm based in Northern Italy. Nestled in the Dolomites, the initial volume of the project is split into two units that are slightly shifted in height and length, and separated by a green garden wall. The volume presents contemporary architecture with a black aluminium shell and mirrored glass on the West facade that catches the surrounding panorama while making the units almost invisible. The mirrored walls feature an anti-reflection film reducing UV rays and preventing birds’ collision. Both units are floating above the ground evoking lightness and symmetry.

Each completely self-contained house with a surface area of 40 sqm can accommodate up to 4 people including 2 adults and 2 children. Each consists of open space with a living room with a convertible sofa, a fitted kitchen, a bathroom with a rainfall shower, and a bedroom with big skylights that open to allow natural light and ventilation. The sleeping area closes and opens fully with a sliding door. The interiors are minimalist and comfortable. They are furnished with modern and functional furniture. The living space opens towards the East with a big glass facade that fades with curvilinear lines. Each house has a cantilevered terrace offering impressive views of the surrounding Alpine landscape. They also have access to the garden, the communal swimming pool, an outdoor shower, and the self-service pool bar. A small basement serves for temporary storage.

The Mirror houses offer a unique chance to spend a beautiful vacation surrounded by the contemporary architecture of the highest standards and the most astonishing landscape.
