Nestled in Malia, on the island of Crete, Cretan Malia Park is enjoying its brand new look.

The minimalist Bauhaus-influenced hotel, designed in the late 1980s by Antonis Stylianides has undergone a complete facelift with extensive renovation works under the direction of Greek architect Vana Pernari. Both the modernist structural elements and building exteriors have been stripped away to reflect the island’s architectural heritage and highlight the lush surrounding gardens. The complex is encircled by local palm trees, banana trees, fig-trees and cacti of all sorts.

The interiors are designed in a Mediterranean style using natural materials like walnut, chestnut and bamboo rattan, stone, brass and ceramics, which combined together create a warm and relaxed mood. The hotel’s spaces are splashed with a mix of modern art, family heirlooms and custom-made pieces fashioned by local craftsmen as well as leading names in design. The result is a unique mid-century modern laidback Boho look.

The hotel has 204 rooms, suites and bungalows with both balconies and terraces, spread over a series of low-rise units. Each of them is decorated differently; you’ll find herringbone flooring, geometric wall tiles, floral tapestries, dressers, wardrobes, and various decorative objects. The bathrooms all come together in sober colors, with suspended light fixtures, grey terrazzo, and local white marble. There are also Bioaroma toiletries, a Cretan brand of organic cosmetics, respectful of the environment with sustainable development.

The hotel features several restaurants and bars supplied by the organic vegetable garden, with Greek, Mediterranean, Italian, and seafood flavors. There is a new restaurant with a Levantine menu.

The hotel also hosts several swimming pools, a yoga pavilion and The Cute Spa wellness area.
