La Co(o)rniche Hotel Dune du Pilat

La Co(o)rniche: Hotel at the Dune du Pilat

There are places whose beauty feels almost unreal, nearly irreverent in the face of nature. Perched atop the majestic Dune du Pilat, La Co(o)rniche is one of those rare addresses where the landscape itself dictates emotion. More than a hotel, it is a sensory experience, a vibrant place to live that is both elegant and deeply rooted in its surroundings.

La Co(o)rniche: Suspended between sky and sea, the most spectacular hotel on the Arcachon Bay

Just minutes from Arcachon, La Co(o)rniche overlooks a panorama of striking intensity. Set almost weightlessly on the dune, it embraces a breathtaking natural setting where the tides reshape the bay each day. The atmosphere is unmistakable: salty, luminous, almost hypnotic. Between pine forest and vast ocean, the hotel feels like a balcony suspended over one of France’s most extraordinary landscapes. In summer, the energy is lively and festive; in winter, it softens into a quiet, contemplative retreat.

Originally built in the 1930s, La Co(o)rniche began as a hunting lodge nestled in a preserved natural environment. This mythical place, emblematic of the golden age of the Côte d’Argent, once welcomed aristocrats and seaside enthusiasts drawn by the purity of the air. In 2010, William Téchoueyres took over the property with a clear vision: to revive this sleeping beauty without betraying its soul. Alongside renowned designer Philippe Starck, he transformed the hotel into an iconic destination where conviviality, elegance, and a sense of celebration coexist effortlessly.

From the moment you arrive, the charm is undeniable. The original neo-Basque building retains its authenticity, while Philippe Starck’s intervention adds a dreamlike, contemporary dimension. Inside, contrasts define the atmosphere: dark wood, antique frescoes, curated objects, and artistic details create an almost theatrical setting. Starck envisioned the hotel as a narrative—a sequence of scenes where each detail tells a story. The result feels like both a lived-in holiday home and a place beyond time, infused with literary and maritime inspiration.

The hotel offers a collection of rooms and cabanas, spread between the main house and a village of wooden bungalows inspired by traditional oyster huts. The 11 historic rooms all feature private terraces with sweeping views over the bay or Cap Ferret. The 18 cabanas house spacious 45 sqm rooms that open directly onto the horizon. Designed by Starck, the interiors blend soft tones, natural materials, and symbolic elements of the Arcachon Bay. Beds are placed at the center of the room to enhance the immersive experience, while natural light floods each space with a soothing glow.

Dining at La Co(o)rniche reflects the spirit of the place: generous, authentic, and deeply local. The restaurant celebrates seasonal produce sourced from regional producers, with a menu that highlights fresh seafood—especially the iconic oysters of the bay. The cuisine is simple yet refined, always focused on flavor. The panoramic terrace becomes the stage for unforgettable moments: breakfast bathed in morning light, sunlit lunches, or dinners at sunset. Meanwhile, the bar is a lively social hub where cocktails and tapas accompany the vibrant evenings of the Bassin.

While La Co(o)rniche does not feature a traditional spa, it offers a more instinctive form of well-being. The infinity pool, inspired by oyster beds, blends seamlessly into the landscape, creating the illusion of swimming toward the ocean. The Starck-designed lounge invites relaxation, while outdoor spaces encourage pure contemplation. The hotel also offers private event spaces and an elegant boutique curated by the Téchoueyres family. Here, everything is designed to slow down, savor the moment, and reconnect with what truly matters.

Staying at La Co(o)rniche means surrendering to the magic of the place. Watching the tides reshape the horizon, listening to the wind through the pines, and embracing each moment as something rare and fleeting. Few hotels capture the essence of a destination so precisely while elevating it to something extraordinary. A timeless retreat, where guests return as much for the view as for the emotion it inspires.
